Unique/Bizarre Victorian Lamp. This oddity is an
interesting combination of masculine and feminine. The melon shape molded glass body
is handpainted in pastels with an encompassing leaf/scroll like border of golden brown and
ochre. The scene depicts what appears to me ,in the foreground, to be a bowless
cupid with a quiver of arrows to the left behind him. Or, perhaps he is an Angel???
Further back to the left of this
supernatural fellow, behind a splitrail fence, is a young woman that appears to be running
away.??? All of this is taking place in a lovely garden that
is drawn, on close inspection, in very fine detail. The base supporting this
intriguing scene is of ornately molded metal with a Gargoyle (or, Green
Man ) in each corner/4 in all. The lamp from base to top of socket stands 12" tall
and is approx. 5 1/2" at its' widest point. It was purchased
without a shade and will be sold without a shade. A real conversation piece! |
